Business VoIP, SIP Trunking & Hosted PBXin Kampala & Across Uganda
Cut your phone bills by 40–60%. Replace expensive analog lines with VoIP, deploy a hosted PBX, or add SIP trunks to your existing PABX. We design, install, and manage business phone systems that actually work.
Why Businesses in Uganda Are Switching to VoIP
Traditional phone systems are expensive, inflexible, and can't keep up with modern business demands. Here's what's holding you back.
Phone Bills Eating Your Budget
Traditional analog lines cost UGX 50,000–100,000+ per line monthly. Long-distance and international calls on PSTN lines drain your margins. Multiple offices mean multiple phone bills with no centralized control.
Missed Calls = Lost Revenue
Without call queuing, IVR, or proper routing, callers hang up after 30 seconds. No voicemail-to-email means missed calls vanish. No call analytics means you never know how many opportunities slipped through.
Multi-Location Chaos
Each office has its own phone system, its own provider, its own bill. Transferring calls between locations costs extra. There's no unified directory, no company-wide intercom, no central visibility.
Legacy PBX Limitations
Your old PBX can't add extensions without new hardware. No remote worker support. No CRM integration. No failover when the system goes down. You're paying for a system that can't grow with you.
Unreliable Call Quality
Dropped calls, echo, one-way audio, and jitter make your business sound unprofessional. Clients think twice when they can't hear you clearly. Poor call quality costs you credibility.
What Is VoIP and Why Does Your Business Need It?
VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) transmits your phone calls over the internet instead of traditional copper phone lines. Instead of paying per-line monthly fees to a telecom, your calls ride your existing internet connection — cutting costs by 40–60% while adding features that analog systems can't match.

Why Backspace for VoIP in Uganda
End-to-End Deployment
We handle everything — site survey, network assessment, hardware supply, SIP trunk provisioning, configuration, testing, and training. You get a working phone system, not a box of parts.
Network-First Approach
VoIP is only as good as the network it runs on. We assess your cabling, switches, bandwidth, and QoS before deploying a single phone. This prevents the dropped calls and poor audio that plague DIY VoIP setups.

Multi-Brand Expertise

After deployment, we offer managed VoIP services — monitoring, updates, trunk management, and user support. Your phone system stays optimized while you focus on your business.
Proven Track Record
We've deployed VoIP systems for hotels, call centers, financial firms, and NGOs across Uganda. Every deployment is backed by real engineering and local references.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is VoIP and how does it work?
VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) transmits phone calls over your internet connection instead of traditional copper phone lines. When you speak, your voice is converted into digital data packets, sent over the internet, and reassembled into audio on the other end. This eliminates the need for separate phone wiring and dramatically reduces call costs — especially for long-distance and international calls.
How much does VoIP cost in Uganda?
VoIP costs vary by setup. A basic 5-extension hosted PBX system starts from approximately UGX 2–5 million for hardware (phones + router) plus UGX 200,000–500,000/month for SIP trunk service. A 50-user system with call center features typically costs UGX 15–30 million hardware plus UGX 1–3 million/month for trunks. Compared to traditional analog lines at UGX 50,000–100,000+ per line monthly, VoIP saves 40–60% on phone bills.
Can I keep my existing phone numbers when switching to VoIP?
Yes. Number porting allows you to transfer your existing landline numbers to VoIP. Backspace handles the porting process with Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) and your current provider. The process typically takes 5–10 business days and there is no service interruption during the transition.
What internet speed do I need for VoIP?
Each VoIP call requires approximately 100 Kbps (0.1 Mbps) of bandwidth. A 10-person office making 5 simultaneous calls needs roughly 1 Mbps of dedicated bandwidth. We recommend a minimum 10 Mbps fiber or dedicated internet connection for offices with 10–20 users. For call centers with 50+ agents, we configure VLANs and QoS to prioritize voice traffic.
What is SIP trunking vs hosted PBX?
SIP trunking connects your existing on-premise PBX to the internet for VoIP calling — you keep your PBX hardware but replace phone lines with virtual trunks. Hosted PBX moves your entire phone system to the cloud — no PBX hardware in your office, just IP phones connected to a cloud service. SIP trunking is better if you have a working PBX and want to cut costs. Hosted PBX is better if you want zero on-premise hardware and maximum flexibility.
Can VoIP work with my existing PABX?
Yes. SIP trunk gateways bridge your existing PABX (even analog systems) to VoIP. We install a gateway device that converts your PABX's analog or digital extensions to SIP, allowing you to use VoIP trunks while keeping your existing phone system. This is the fastest way to reduce phone bills without replacing your entire setup.
What happens if the internet goes down?
We configure redundant internet connections (primary fiber + backup 4G/5G) and automatic failover. When the primary connection drops, calls seamlessly switch to the backup. For critical operations, we also configure PSTN fallback trunks that route calls over traditional phone lines as a last resort. Your phones never go dead.
Do you support call centers?
Yes. We deploy purpose-built VoIP call center solutions with ACD (Automatic Call Distribution), predictive dialing, real-time agent dashboards, call recording, and CRM integration. Our call center solutions scale from 5-seat help desks to 500-seat enterprise operations. We use 3CX, Grandstream, or custom Asterisk deployments depending on your requirements.
How long does VoIP installation take?
A basic 5–10 extension system can be deployed in 1–2 days. A 50+ extension system with call center features, IVR, and CRM integration typically takes 1–2 weeks. SIP trunk provisioning takes 2–5 business days. Number porting takes 5–10 business days. We handle all configuration, testing, and training.
What brands do you recommend for VoIP in Uganda?
For small to medium businesses, we recommend Grandstream (best value) or Yeastar (feature-rich). For call centers and Microsoft Teams integration, we recommend 3CX. For custom deployments, we use Asterisk/FreePBX. All brands are tested and supported in Uganda with local warranty and spare parts.
